PRES. MACRON SPOKE BY PHONE WITH ISRAELI’s PM NETANYAHU ON 27 DEC 23 AMID GAZA

RELEASE OF FRENCH HOSTAGES IS A PRIORITY

USPA NEWS - "The President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, spoke by telephone with Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of the State of Israel, this Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

The President of the Republic once again affirmed France's attachment to the security of Israel. To this end, the President of the Republic recalled the steps taken within the framework of the European Union relating to the establishment of sanctions against Hamas, as well as the measures taken with international partners against terrorist groups threatening peace and the stability of the region.

The two leaders then discussed the situation in Gaza. The Head of State recalled that the release of all the hostages, and in particular three of our compatriots, is a priority for France. As the fighting intensified, the President of the Republic expressed to the Israeli Prime Minister his deepest concern about the very heavy civilian death toll and the absolute humanitarian emergency faced by the civilian population of Gaza." He (The French President Emmanuel Macro) recalled the imperative of protecting civilians which was imposed on Israel and underlined the urgency of delivering the necessary aid to the population of Gaza, as well as the need to work towards a lasting ceasefire, with the help of all regional and international partners. As such, France will work in the coming days, in conjunction with Jordan, to carry out humanitarian operations in Gaza.

The President of the Republic also insisted on the importance for Israel to take all necessary measures to put an end to the violence committed by certain settlers against Palestinian civilians, as well as to any new colonization project in the West Bank, which came threaten the two-state solution, the only viable solution to ensure Israel's long-term security and meet the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinians.
The two leaders finally addressed the regional situation. The head of state reported on France's efforts to avoid a regional conflagration and messages sent in particular to Iran and its affiliated groups to stay away from the conflict. The President of the Republic reiterated the importance of the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 and stressed that France continues to work, in coordination with its international partners, to avoid an escalation on the blue line.
